Casting Call for ‘See’ Season 2 to Take Place on January 21st

Actor Jason Momoa is heading to St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, next month for a lengthy production shoot for the second season of the Apple TV+ streaming series See.  Momoa plays Baba Voss, tribal leader.  Additionally, a casting call for January 21st has been made for lots of extras and we’ve got all the details below.

From Global News:

CEO of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation Sean Dyke told Global News Radio 980 CFPL that the filming is for the Apple TV series See.

“The premise is basically a virus has decimated humankind and there’s only two million people alive and none of them can see, with the exception of two twins who were born to Jason Momoa.”

When asked about logistics in organizing production in the region, Dyke said that component was handled through Elgin County but he was able to highlight the growing reputation of the former psychiatric hospital as a sought-after location for filmmaking.

“We get some phone calls for the psych hospital fairly often,” he said. “It is an established site now. There’s been a number of films and TV programs that were filmed there. Most recently, they had The Boys that were filmed there from Amazon. Guillermo Del Toro just did Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark there. It’s becoming a real location of choice for filmmakers in the province.

Dyke also added that the latest use of the site will be unique in that it’s an entirely outdoor shoot.

“You’ll see a lot of work being taken place right now in the setup for it, and over the next month or so they’ll be developing a set on the outside part of the psych hospital which, you know, in the past a lot of the style of films that were filmed there were done interior because of the look and feel of the buildings, but this one is going to be outside in the winter for the next few months.”

The casting call for background actors for Apple TV’s series “See”, which is being filmed outdoors at the former psychiatric hospital on Sunset Drive, was issued Friday by the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation. The opportunity to appear on screen next to Aquaman is open to everyone over the age of 18.

“The casting company that is working on this needs several hundred background people for filming that will take place from February all the way through to July,” said Sean Dyke, CEO of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation. “There will be some pretty long days, long hours, but it certainly isn’t a full-time job… Being part of a project like this is something that people really like to do no matter what stage of life they are at.”

Set in the future, the show focuses on the aftermath of a devastating virus that has left only two-million people alive and without sight. The survivors are forced to find new ways to interact, build, and hunt. Momoa’s character is the father of twin boys born 200 years later with the ability to see, something that is now viewed as witchcraft and punishable by death.

Filming in St. Thomas will be done Monday to Friday, from February until June or July with 10-15 hour days possible. Extras will be provided with a costume, although it is recommended they invest in “good thermal underwear and socks” to wear underneath.

Those interested in applying as extras must be comfortable wearing prosthetics and real fur, wool and leather. They also must be ok with physical touching and have a natural feel with no fake hair, nails or eyelashes, lip fillers, or obvious botox. Non-union extras will be paid $14 an hour, with an eight-hour minimum guarantee.

The casting call will take place at Fanshawe Career and Employment Services at the Elgin Centre at 417 Wellington Street, St. Thomas on January 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information about what is needed to apply can be found by clicking here.
